El objetivo de La Masía es desarrollar el talento de jóvenes que aspiran a ser profesionales del FC Barcelona, gracias a sus cualidades. El club les ofrece formación académica para facilitar un probable salto al fútbol profesional. Muchos de los jóvenes talentos proceden tanto de Cataluña como del resto de España, pero también hay jugadores de otros países.
Más de 30 jugadores han conseguido jugar en el primer equipo del FC Barcelona o en otros equipos de máxima exigencia. Entre ellos se encuentran futbolistas como Ángel Pedraza, Albert Ferrer, Luis Milla, Guillermo Amor, Josep Guardiola, Sergi Barjuan, Iván de la Peña, Rufete, Carles Puyol, Xavi, Roger García, Óscar García, Albert Celades, Francesc Arnau, Albert Luque, Gerard López, Luis García, José Manuel Reina, Mikel Arteta, Fernando Navarro, Víctor Valdés, Gabri, Andrés Iniesta, Sergio García, Lionel Messi, Bojan Krkic, Gerard Piqué, Cesc Fabregas, Sergio Busquets, Pedro, Marc Crosas, Alberto Botía, Thiago Alcántara, Fran Mérida, Jeffren Suárez y Daniel Pacheco.
En 2009 Leo Messi se convirtió en el primer jugador formado en La Masía en obtener el Balón de Oro, coincidiendo con el Balón de Bronce para Xavi Hernández y el cuarto puesto para Andrés Iniesta.3 Apenas medio año después, el fútbol base barcelonista cosechó un nuevo reconocimiento, después que la Selección de fútbol de España ganase el Mundial de Fútbol de Sudáfrica con nueve jugadores formados en La Masía -Víctor Valdés, Pepe Reina, Carles Puyol, Gerard Piqué, Sergio Busquets, Xavi Hernández, Andrés Iniesta, Cesc Fàbregas y Pedro Rodríguez-, de los cuales siete disputaron la final.
EL ORGULLO DE UN CLUB
La nueva Masía es un moderno edificio de cinco plantas y casi 6.000 metros cuadrados, con capacidad para 83 deportistas y que cuenta con todas las comodidades para el desarrollo tanto deportivo como académi
co de sus residentes. Levantarla ha costado al Barça 11 millones de euros.Sandro Rosell la calificó en su discurso como "la joya de la corona" del barcelonismo, "un sueño colectivo que arrancó hace 32 años" y que prosigue ahora con la nueva residencia, "donde se seguirán inculcando los valores inherentes al ADN azulgrana: la solidaridad, el trabajo y el esfuerzo", subrayó.
La Masia del siglo XXI abrió oficialmente sus puertas, para seguir manteniendo vivo el 'Mas que un club' que históricamente ha acompañado al Barça.
